At Hilgay Riverside Academy, we believe that Design and Technology is an inspiring, challenging and practical subject which can bring learning to life. We encourage our pupils to use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve problems within a variety of contexts. We have worked in partnership with the PKC (Primary Knowledge Curriculum) to develop a Design and Technology Curriculum for pupils in years 1-6. This has been planned as part of a 2-year rolling programme so that the pupils all have the opportunity to access all of the areas of learning.



We understand that Design and Technology allows our pupils to acquire a broad range of subject knowledge in other areas such as Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Computing and Art. Design and Technology gives our pupils the opportunity to develop their skills through collaborative working which helps to instil respect.

Our curriculum is cyclical which allows our pupils the opportunity to develop their skills in planning, designing, making and evaluating whilst developing knowledge in the areas of cooking, sewing and building.
