Pupil Premium Information

The Government believes that the pupil premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

In most cases Pupil Premium is paid direct to schools. Schools decide how to use the funding, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision their pupils need. However, for accountability purposes, schools are required to show clearly how and where the money is spent. The main purpose of the extra funding is to narrow the attainment gap between pupils from disadvantaged and, or, disrupted backgrounds and other pupils.

At Hilgay Riverside Academy, funding is reviewed and targetted according to need annually. It may differ each year according to the level of the funding and needs of the children but the provision we offer includes:

  • additional adult support to access the curriculum; to pre teach new learning; to address misconceptions
  • additional adult support to improve reading fluency by increasing reading miles in school
  • financial support with enrichment activities including trips; residential trips; clubs

PE & Sports Premium Information

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, is being allocated to primary school head teachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Hilgay Riverside Academy we believe that sports play an important role in promoting social inclusion, healthy lifestyles and self-confidence. Our aim is to maintain the quality and quantity of sports, as well as to raise opportunities for pupils to try different activities whilst raising participation numbers. Furthermore, through sports and physical activity we aim to develop a greater awareness about dangers such as obesity, smoking and other such activities that can have detrimental impact upon pupil health and well-being.

We are all working together to give the children a solid grounding in sport, whilst also raising their understanding of the vital place of physical activity within a healthy lifestyle. The Sports Premium Allocation will be used to develop pupil’s lifestyles and physical wellbeing. Our sports opportunities are inclusive and open to all pupils.
